الماعون
The Surah has been titled after the word al-ma'un occurring at the end of the last verse.
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
107:1
أَرَءَيۡتَ ٱلَّذِي يُكَذِّبُ بِٱلدِّينِ
Saheeh International
Have you seen the one who denies the Recompense?
Wahiduddin Khan
Have you seen one who denies the Day of Judgement
Shabbir Ahmed
Have you seen him who proclaims allegiance to the Divine System, but denies it in action? ((53:33), (75:32-33), (95:7). 'Takzeeb' = Denying in practice
107:2
فَذَٰلِكَ ٱلَّذِي يَدُعُّ ٱلۡيَتِيمَ
Saheeh International
For that is the one who drives away the orphan
Wahiduddin Khan
Who turns away the orphan
Shabbir Ahmed
Behold, that is he who repels the orphan, the widow, the helpless, the one in a lonely state. (8)
107:3
وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلۡمِسۡكِينِ
Saheeh International
And does not encourage the feeding of the poor.

and who does not urge the feeding of the poor

And urges not the feeding of the needy. And participates not in helping those who have lost their jobs, whose businesses have stalled, and whose hard earned income is insufficient to meet their basic needs
107:4
فَوَيۡلࣱ لِّلۡمُصَلِّينَ
Saheeh International
So woe to those who pray

So woe to those who pray

Ah, woe unto the praying ones
107:5
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ عَن صَلَاتِهِمۡ سَاهُونَ
Saheeh International
[But] who are heedless of their prayer -
Wahiduddin Khan
but whose hearts are not in their prayer

They know not what their prayer is meant to be
107:6
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ يُرَآءُونَ
Saheeh International
Those who make show [of their deeds]

Those who do things only to be seen by others
Shabbir Ahmed
They only want to be seen and praised. (9:54). (They go through motions of prayer and keep announcing it)
107:7
وَيَمۡنَعُونَ ٱلۡمَاعُونَ
Saheeh International
And withhold [simple] assistance.

Who are uncharitable even over very small things

And, with all this, they put dams before the Spring of Sustenance. ('Ma'n' = Running water. 'Mu'in' = Source of sustenance with plenty of fresh water springs)
