الصف

The Surah derives its name from the sentence yuqatiluna fi sabil-i- hlsaff-an of verse 4; thereby implying that it is a Surah in which the word saff occurred.

Saheeh International

Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth exalts Allāh, and He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

Wahiduddin Khan

Everything in the heavens and earth glorifies God -- He is the Almighty, the Wise

Shabbir Ahmed

All things in the heavens and all things in the earth are constantly working to manifest the Glory of Allah and to fulfill His Plan. For, He is the Almighty, the Wise

61:2

Saheeh International

O you who have believed, why do you say what you do not do?

Wahiduddin Khan

Believers! Why do you say one thing and do another

Shabbir Ahmed

O You who have chosen to be graced with belief! Why do you say something which you don't do

61:3

Saheeh International

Greatly hateful in the sight of Allāh is that you say what you do not do.

Wahiduddin Khan

It is most hateful to God that you do not practise what you preach

Shabbir Ahmed

Most reprehensible it is in the Sight of Allah that you say that which you do not

61:4

Saheeh International

Indeed, Allāh loves those who fight in His cause in a row as though they are a [single] structure joined firmly.

Wahiduddin Khan

surely, God loves those who fight for His cause in ranks, as if they were a solid cemented structure

Shabbir Ahmed

Verily, Allah loves those who fight in His Cause in columns as if they were a rock solid wall

61:5

Saheeh International

And [mention, O Muḥammad], when Moses said to his people, "O my people, why do you harm me while you certainly know that I am the messenger of Allāh to you?" And when they deviated, Allāh caused their hearts to deviate. And Allāh does not guide the defiantly disobedient people.

Wahiduddin Khan

Remember when Moses said to his people, "O my people, why do you cause me grief when you know that I am God's Messenger to you?" When they wavered, God let their hearts waver too. God does not guide transgressors

Shabbir Ahmed

(The people of Moses so frequently said what they did not do that) Moses had to tell them, "O My people! Why do you hurt me, even though you know that I am Allah's Messenger to you?" But when they kept deviating, Allah let their hearts deviate. For, Allah shows not the Way to those who keep drifting away from their word. ('Fasiq' = One who drifts away - from? - depends on the context)

61:6

Saheeh International

And [mention] when Jesus, the son of Mary, said, "O Children of Israel, indeed I am the messenger of Allāh to you confirming what came before me of the Torah and bringing good tidings of a messenger to come after me, whose name is Aḥmad." But when he came to them with clear evidences, they said, "This is obvious magic."

Wahiduddin Khan

Remember when Jesus, son of Mary, said, "O Children of Israel, I am sent to you by God, confirming the Torah that came before me and bringing good news of a messenger to follow me, whose name will be Ahmad." Yet when he came to them with clear signs, they said, "This is merely sorcery

Shabbir Ahmed

And (the same happened when) Jesus son of Mary said, "O Children of Israel! Behold, I am a Messenger of Allah unto you. I confirm the Divine Origin of the Torah, and give you the glad news of a Messenger to come after me whose name shall be Ahmad (the Praised One.") But when he has come unto them with the self-evident Truth, the People of the Scripture say, "It is obviously a magical lie

61:7

Saheeh International

And who is more unjust than one who invents about Allāh untruth while he is being invited to Islām. And Allāh does not guide the wrongdoing people.

Wahiduddin Khan

Who could be more wicked than one who invents lies about God when called to submit to Him? God does not guide the wrongdoers

Shabbir Ahmed

And who does greater wrong than he who invents a lie against Allah when he is invited to

61:8

Saheeh International

They want to extinguish the light of Allāh with their mouths, but Allāh will perfect His light, although the disbelievers dislike it.

Wahiduddin Khan

they wish to put His light out with their mouths. But He will perfect His light, much as those who deny the truth may dislike it

Shabbir Ahmed

They aim to put out Allah's Light with their mouths (utterances), but Allah has willed to spread His Light in all its fullness, however hateful this may be to the deniers of the Truth

61:9

Saheeh International

It is He who sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth to manifest it over all religion, although those who associate others with Allāh dislike it.

Wahiduddin Khan

it is He who has sent His Messenger with guidance and the true religion, so that He may cause it to prevail over all religions, however much the polytheists may dislike it

Shabbir Ahmed

He it is Who has sent forth His Messenger with the Guidance, and the Religion of Truth, that He may make it prevail over all religion (other systems of life) however hateful this may be to those who ascribe partners to Him. (9:31-33), (14:48), (18:48), (

61:10

Saheeh International

O you who have believed, shall I guide you to a transaction that will save you from a painful punishment?

Wahiduddin Khan

Believers! Shall I guide you to a profitable course that will save you from a painful punishment

Shabbir Ahmed

O You who have chosen to be graced with belief! Shall I tell you of a trade that will save you from a painful doom (in both lives)

61:11

Saheeh International

[It is that] you believe in Allāh and His Messenger and strive in the cause of Allāh with your wealth and your lives. That is best for you, if you only knew.

Wahiduddin Khan

You should believe in God and His Messenger, and strive for God's cause with your possessions and your lives. That will be better for you, if you only knew

Shabbir Ahmed

That you put your Faith in Allah and His Messenger and strive in Allah's Cause with your wealth and person. This is for your own good, if your knowledge could encompass it

61:12

Saheeh International

He will forgive for you your sins and admit you to gardens beneath which rivers flow and pleasant dwellings in gardens of perpetual residence. That is the great attainment.

Wahiduddin Khan

and He will forgive you your sins and admit you into Gardens with rivers flowing under them. He will lodge you in fine dwellings in the Gardens of Eternity; that is indeed the supreme achievement

Shabbir Ahmed

He will guard you from trailing behind in humanity, and admit you into Gardens beneath which rivers flow, and into beautiful mansions in the Gardens of Eden, (Gardens of Eternal Bliss). That is the Supreme Triumph

61:13

Saheeh International

And [you will obtain] another [favor] that you love - victory from Allāh and an imminent conquest; and give good tidings to the believers.

Wahiduddin Khan

He will give you another blessing which you desire: help from God and imminent victory. Give good tidings [O Muhammad] to believers

Shabbir Ahmed

And yet another thing that you so dearly love! Help from Allah and imminent victory (soon in this very life). So give glad news to the believers (O Prophet)

61:14

Saheeh International

O you who have believed, be supporters of Allāh, as when Jesus, the son of Mary, said to the disciples, "Who are my supporters for Allāh?" The disciples said, "We are supporters of Allāh." And a faction of the Children of Israel believed and a faction disbelieved. So We supported those who believed against their enemy, and they became dominant.

Wahiduddin Khan

Believers, be God's helpers, as Jesus, son of Mary, said to the disciples, "Who will be my helpers in the cause of God?" The disciples said, "We shall be God's helpers." Some of the Children of Israel believed in him and some denied the truth; We supported the believers against their enemies and they triumphed over them

Shabbir Ahmed

O You who have chosen to be blessed with belief! Be Allah's helpers. As an example - Jesus son of Mary said to the disciples, "Who are my helpers for Allah?" They said, "We are Allah's helpers." Thus a group from the Children of Israel accepted him, and another group rejected him. Then We strengthened those who believed, against their foe, and they became triumphant
